So you want a bodybuilding diet? Actually you probably don't but you want the body that follows the diet. It's important to remember that most bodybuilding diets are designed with the genetically gifted or performance enhancing crowd in mind. But us natural guys and gals can learn something from them as well. The most important thing when starting out is to choose a diet that you can stick to and follow for a long time. Just like your training routine you want to pick something and see it through, not change your routine or diet every week because you didn't immediately see the results that you were looking for. It's also important to note that most people use 2 diets. One to gain muscle while minimizing fat gains and another to cut the fat while maintaining as much muscle as possible. It's very difficult for a natural trainer to gain muscle and lose fat at the same time. I'm not saying it's outright impossible but most people would be far better off choosing one goal and accomplishing it before moving on to the next. With this in mind I'll give you a couple of things to keep in mind when choosing your diet.
Can you follow it? If you do not stick to your diet it isn't doing you any good. Does it fit into your budget? This is a very important consideration for those of us on tight budgets. Make sure you budget and plan your shopping. It doesn't have to be expensive. Chicken, eggs and milk every single day might be boring but it will make you bigger.
Does it allow cheat meals? A few cheat meals in a week will greatly improve the odds of you sticking to your diet in the long term. We can't eat perfect all the time. We all miss a day at the gym every now and then, and we all miss or cheat on a few meals here and there. Make sure your diet allows for this.
Does it fit your goals? This should go without saying but you'd be surprised how many people choose a diet with out taking into account what exactly they want to get out of their body in the coming months. Like I said before you should try to focus on either gaining muscle or losing fat. Don't try to do both at the same time or if you are a novice you will most likely become very frustrated. And we all know that it will be much harder to stay motivated in the gym and at the dinner table if you aren't seeing the results you want in the mirror.
